System requirements

Made for macOS 14 or later.

Install Live Wall Calendar from the Mac App Store and keep it in the Applications folder. The app detects each connected display and saves a separate Canvas arrangement for it.

If you need to revisit setup, open Settings, choose General, then select Show Welcome Guide. This does not reset your connections, palettes, or layout.

First run and permissions

  1. 01

    Choose a starting layout

Pick Balance, Focus, or Quiet. It is only a starting point, and every module can be moved, resized, or hidden later.

  2. 02

    Choose a background mode

Select System Wallpaper to keep the wallpaper chosen in macOS, or Ambient to use a background generated from your Live Wall Calendar palette.

  3. 03

    Connect only what you want

Calendar, Reminders, Location Services, and Notion are optional. macOS requests Calendar, Reminders, and Location permissions separately. If access was denied, use the matching settings button in the app to open System Settings.

  4. 04

Select the sources that belong on this desktop

Open Calendar & Reminders to select individual calendars and reminder lists. Choose a weather location in Live Desktop, and connect a Notion page or database only if it helps your workflow.

System Wallpaper or Ambient

System Wallpaper

Keep the background selected in macOS.

Live Wall Calendar adds transparent, click-through modules above the current wallpaper and makes no wallpaper changes in this mode. If the preview cannot read a protected wallpaper file, choose Allow Wallpaper Preview and select the same image once. The access is read-only.

Ambient

Use your Canvas palette as the background.

Nothing changes until you choose Use Ambient Background. Choose Update Ambient Background after changing the palette. If you later select a different wallpaper in System Settings, Live Wall Calendar pauses its wallpaper control until you explicitly apply Ambient again.

Edit the desktop Canvas

Direct editing

Open Live Desktop, then choose Edit Desktop. Select a module, drag it to move, and use any edge or corner handle to resize. The inspector can show or hide modules. Choose Done Editing when the arrangement is ready.

Keyboard editing

  • Arrow keys move the selected module.
  • Option plus an Arrow key resizes it.
  • Delete hides the selected module.
  • Command-Z undoes; Shift-Command-Z redoes.
  • Escape leaves Edit Desktop without keeping unfinished edits.

More than one display

Use the display menu in Live Desktop to choose which detected display you are editing. Each display keeps its own layout and appearance.

Notion setup and privacy controls

Connect and choose a source

Open Notion, choose Connect Notion, approve only the pages you want in the browser, then return to the app. Reload sources if needed and select one page or database. A single page is read-only.

Map database fields

Choose the title, status, date, priority, and context fields that should appear. Desktop completion is available only when a checkbox, status, or select property has a safe completed value. If completion is unavailable, review the completion field and completed option in the mapping section.

Reconnect, remove, or disconnect

Use Change Shared Pages or Select Pages Again when the source is missing or access changed. Remove Cached Content clears saved rows while keeping the connection. Disconnect Notion, then confirm Disconnect and Remove Data, to remove the local credentials and cached Notion content.

Weather and Apple attribution

Choose a location

In Live Desktop, choose Use My Mac’s Location for an approximate automatic location, or expand Choose a city manually and select a search result. If permission is off, choose Open Location Settings.

Refresh and offline behavior

Weather uses Apple WeatherKit and refreshes at a responsible interval while the weather module is visible and the display is awake. A recent local result may remain visible during a temporary network interruption.

Apple Weather attribution

The Apple Weather attribution link appears beside the weather result and in Settings under Privacy, in the Location & weather section. Select it to open Apple’s weather legal information.

Start at Login

Turn it on

Open Settings, choose General, then enable Start at Login. The installed app must remain in the Applications folder.

If macOS requires approval

Choose Open Login Items, or open System Settings, then General, then Login Items & Extensions. Allow Live Wall Calendar there and return to the app.

If the desktop does not appear

Confirm Enable the live desktop layer is on in General settings. Reopen the app after changing Login Items, then check the Start at Login status again.

Good places to start

01

The preview does not match the desktop

Confirm the detected display, choose the intended starting layout, and use Edit Desktop to review each module. Live Wall Calendar stores a separate layout for each display.

02

Your system wallpaper is not visible in the preview

In System Wallpaper mode, choose Allow Wallpaper Preview and select the same protected image once. Access is read-only and remains local to your Mac.

03

Weather is unavailable

Check Location Services or the city you entered, then refresh. Weather uses Apple WeatherKit and may keep a recent local result available when the network is interrupted.

04

Notion cannot find a source

Reconnect Notion or change the pages shared with Live Wall Calendar, then reload sources. A database needs a compatible completion field before desktop checkboxes can update it.

Before sending diagnostics

Keep private content out of support email.

Do not send passwords, tokens, private calendar or reminder content, Notion exports, or full file paths. A screenshot can be useful after private names and content are hidden.
